For a student entering a competitive examination

This visa enables the holder to attend an interview or a competitive entrance examination for a public or private higher education institution. In the event of success, the student may request, without returning to his/her country of origin, a one-year renewable residence permit from the Préfecture.
 

For that purpose, you must consult the French embassy in your country of origin.
