Opening a bank account

If your stay in France exceeds three months, we would advise you to open an account. To do so, you need to go to a branch of the bank of your choice and submit the following documents:
  • an identity document (passport, identity card or visa);
  • proof of residence (rent receipt, gas or electricity bill).

Furthermore, you need to deposit a minimum sum of approximately €15.
When the account is open, you can apply for a chequebook and a bank card. The relevant charges vary from one bank to another.

Look carefully at the services offered by the various banks before making your choice. The Société Générale, for example, is the partner of the Mines ParisTech students’ union which could provide you with information on other agreements concluded between the School associations and various banks.
