The Services de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle of the French embassies abroad, under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, actively participate in promoting the French language and culture abroad. The cultural institutions, including the Instituts français and Centres culturels français provide courses in general and specialised French for the benefit of foreigners who wish to learn the French language. Furthermore, the Alliances Françaises provide similar services.

 

 

 

Accordingly, some 430 institutions provide courses in French in more than 150 countries. These institutions award diplomas certifying a particular command of the French language: DELF (diplôme d’étude de langue française) and DALF (diplôme approfondi de langue française).
